No. 103 (Search and Rescue) Flight

On 1 April 1947, the RCAF replaced No. 101 Composite Flight with No. 103 Search and Rescue (SAR) Flight, which was dedicated to SAR and in the beginning operated two Cansos and a Norseman. No. 103 SAR Flight took delivery of the first helicopter to be based in the Maritimes on 11 October 1947, a Sikorsky S-51 Dragonfly # 9602. Later in October 1947, No. 103 SAR Flight moved to RCAF Station Greenwood NS where it took delivery of its first Lancaster to augment its inventory of SAR aircraft.
