50 Squadron
Helicopter Strike Squadron [HS 50] (1955-74)

Formed as HS 50 under the US system of numbering in July 1955. It later disbanded in July 1974 when it was split into HS 423 and HS 443 due to its size and scope of operations.

Role: Served as the RCN's operational helicopter squadron providing helicopter detachments to the carriers, helicopter-carrying destroyer escorts (DDH), Tribal class destroyers and Operational Support ships. Its duties included Anti-Submarine Warfare, Transport, Firefighting and Search & Rescue.

Home Base: Shearwater, NS
